Patrik Oláh was born in 1998 in Salgótarján, Hungary, where he began studying the violin. The basis of his works is the use of the components of authentic gypsy music. He is credited with composing the first mass in the history of Romani music, entitle Le Devleske (To God). The work was performed in the Basilica of Saint Stephen in Budapest.
In 2018, his piece Meine Qual won first prize in the Beethoven Buda International Composer Competition. This year, he was a finalist in the Bartók World Competition and 2nd place in the Szokolay InspirArt International Composer Competition. In 2019, he won a special prize at the Generace Competition in Ostrava and the Ise-Shima 2022 International Composers Competition in Japan. On the main stage of the 2019 Sziget Festival, he performed one of his violin compositions in front of an audience of 70,000, with the participation of American dancer Drew Dollaz.
He obtained his master’s degree with honours from the Academy of Music in 2022 in the class of Máté Bel-la, and was then admitted to the doctoral school of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
In 2023 he was the winner of the international composition competition announced as a joint candidacy of the capital’s municipality and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. The winning work, named Fusion, was performed on 2nd September 2023 by the Festival Orchestra, conducted by Iván Fischer, on Hősök Square in Budapest.
