In January 2015, violinist Julien Chauvin founded a new ensemble on period instruments with the ambition of reviving an essential link in French musical history: Le Concert de la Loge Olympique.
Founded in 1783 by the comte d’Ogny, this orchestra was considered one of the best in Europe and will still be celebrated for his command of Haydn’s Paris Symphonies, which were made in the Salle des Cent-Suisses of the Tuileries Palace.
Nowadays, with variable geometry training, the ensemble works on chamber music programmes, symphonic or lyrical, conducted by violin or baton and defends a large repertoire, going from baroque music to music from the beginning of the 20th century.
The aim of this ensemble is also to explore new formats of concerts by reconnecting with the spontaneity and purposes of the late 18th century which mixed different genres and artists in the same party or by conceiving bypasses with other artistic disciplines.
Since its foundation, the ensemble toured in several lyrical venues with operas Armida by Haydn, staged by Mariame Clément, Le Cid by Sacchini, staged by Sandrine Anglade, Phèdre by Lemoyne and Cinderella by Isouard in productions of the Palazzetto Bru Zane staged by Marc Paquien and Die Entführung aus dem Serail by Mozart staged by Christophe Rulhes.
The orchestra also associates with renowned soloists such as Karina Gauvin, Sandrine Piau, Philippe Jaroussky, Marina Viotti, Andreas Staier, and Justin Taylor as part of regular collaborations.
The ensemble is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Paris, the Île-de-France Region, the Fondation Société Générale, C’est vous l’avenir (principal sponsor), Abéo, the Fonds de donation Françoise Kahn-Hamm and the sponsors who are members of Club Olympe. It is in residence at the Jean-Baptiste Lully Conservatoire in Puteaux, associate artist at the Fondation Singer-Polignac and associate ensemble at the Auditorium du Louvre. It is also an ensemble in residence at the Festival de Saint-Denis, supported by the DRAC Île-de-France for two years. In 2021, the ensemble began a four-year cross-residency with the Association pour le Développement des Activités Musicales dans l’Aisne (ADAMA) and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles).
The ensemble is in residence à the Festival de Saint-Denis as part of the DRAC Île-de-France’s support for festivals.
