The Canadian bass-baritone Robert Gleadow has performed in the world’s greatest opera and concert venues since he graduated from the Jette Parker Young Artist Program of the Royal Opera Covent Garden and the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio. He was highly acclaimed in his performance at the Houston Grand Opera as Talbot/Maria Stuarda alongside Joyce DiDonato, conducted by Patrick Summers.
In his career, he performed at the Theater Basel in the title role Don Giovanni, the title role in The Marriage of Figaro at the Cologne Opera, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Leporello in Don Giovanni, made his debut at the Glyndebourne Opera as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Talbot in Maria Stuarda, Truffaldino in the John Cox production of Ariadne auf Naxos, and Angelotto in Tosca with the Houston Grand Opera, Colline with the Dallas Opera, the title role in The Mariage of Figaro at the Opéra de Montréal, Colline at the Municipal Theatre of Santiago in Chile, the speaker in The Magic Flute, Colline in La Bohème, Thesus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
In concert, he sang alongside Natalie Dessay in the Christmas Oratorio by Bach, participated in a European tour with the Orchestre d’Astrée conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm, St Matthew Passion by Bach and the Great Mass in C minor by Mozart with the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Mark Elder, the Requiem by Mozart with the ensemble Mattheus conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and made an appearance at the opening gala of the new hall of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Robert Gleadow can be heard in the role of Lorenzo in I Capuleti e Montecchi with Anna Netrebko at the Deutsche Grammophon.
Among his recent projects are Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny by Kurt Weil (Zurich), Così fan tutte (Lausanne Opera), the title role in The Mariage of Figaro (Luxembourg, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées) and the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy at the Liceu in Barcelona.
