tenor
Raphael Höhn took his first steps as an alto soloist with the Zürcher Sängerknaben (Zurich Boys’ Choir), performing in productions of La Flûte enchantée and taking part in CD recordings. After a preparatory course with Frédéric Gindraux, he began classical singing studies at the Zurich University of the Arts with Scot Weir. He then obtained a Master of Arts in Early Music from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where his teachers included Rita Dams, Peter Kooij, Michael Chance, and Jill Feldman. He has also taken part in masterclasses with, among others, Andreas Scholl, Gerd Türk, Mariëtte Witteveen, and Jean-Paul Fouchécourt.
As a soloist, he is regularly invited to perform in concerts throughout Europe. With a wide-ranging repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary music, he focuses particularly on the interpretation of Baroque works, paying special attention to the rhetorical expression of texts. He has worked with Ton Koopman, Frans Brüggen, Jos van Veldhoven, Václav Luks, and Howard Griffiths, which has led him to perform at prestigious festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, the Göttingen International Haendel Festival, and the Bach Festival in Leipzig. He also sings with the professional vocal ensembles Voces Suaves and Vox Luminis.
Among other honours, Raphael Höhn is a recipient of the Migros Culture Percentage Study Prize (2014) and a laureate of the International Bach Competition in Leipzig (2016).
