After brilliant musical studies, as a pupil of Mireille Alcantara and having benefited from the advice of Régine Crespin, Karine Deshayes first joined the troupe of the Opéra de Lyon where she sang Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Stéphano (Romeo and Juliet) and above all her first Rossinian role, Rosina (The Barber of Seville). She is a regular guest at the Opéra national de Paris, where she performs the great Rossinian roles (Rosina, Angelina in La Cenerentola, Elena in La Donna del lago), as well as Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea), Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Cherubino, Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Charlotte (Werther), as well as the title role in Carmen and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. She sang Elisabetta in a concert version of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda at the Opéra d’Avignon. She has also been invited to appear on foreign stages: Salzburg Festival (The Magic Flute conducted by Riccardo Muti), Teatro Real in Madrid (Adalgisa in Norma), Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon), Metropolitan Opera in New York (Siebel in Faust, Isolier in Count Ory, Nicklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann), San Francisco Opera (La Cenerentola). More recently, Karine Deshayes sang Charlotte at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Opéra de Marseille, Stéphano (Romeo and Juliet) at the Metropolitan Opera, La Cenerentola at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, etc.
Among her projects are the title role in Norma at the Opéra du Capitole in Toulouse, the title role in Semiramide at the Opéra de Rouen and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, as well as numerous concerts and recitals.
Karine Deshayes is a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur and an Officier of the Order of Arts and Letters.
Karine Deshayes performed at the Saint-Denis Festival in 2017 in Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Paris Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Daniele Rustioni, and in Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestre National de France, conducted by James Gaffigan.
