Julien Chauvin was attracted to the Baroque revolution and the revival of performance on ancient instruments from an early age and went on to train in the Netherlands, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, with Vera Beths, founder of the Archibudelli alongside Anne Bylsma.
In 2003 he won the MA Festival Brugge and performed as a soloist in Georgia, South America, and South Africa, all while playing amidst great European baroque ensembles.
Fulfilling his wish to revive a famous 18th-century ensemble, Julien Chauvin founded a new orchestra in 2015: Le Concert de la Loge. The ambition of this re-creation is to explore forgotten pages of the French lyrical and instrumental repertoire, as well as concert formats that encourage the audience’s spontaneity and imagination.
In parallel, he continued his collaboration with the Quatuor Cambini-Paris, founded in 2007 with which he plays and records the quatuors of Jadin, David, Gouvy, Mozart, Gounod and Haydn.
Julien Chauvin directs the musical direction of lyrical productions such as the show Era la notte staged by Juliette Deschamps with Anna Caterina Antonacci, Phèdre by Lemoyne and Cinderella by Isouard in productions of the Palazzetto Bru Zane staged by Marc Paquien, the Armida by Haydn stage by Mariame Clément and Chimène, ou Le Cid by Sacchini staged by Sandrine Anglade, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail by Mozart staged by Christophe Rulhes.
He is also a guest conductor for many formations: orchestra Esterházy Hofkapelle, Orchestre national Avignon-Provence, Orchestre national de Metz, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Opéra de Limoges, Orkiestra Historyczna de Katowice, the Folger Consort in Washington, Les Violons du Roy, Kammerorchester Basel, and the Gürzenich-Orchester in Köln.
Julien Chauvin’s discography contains concertante pieces by Haydn, Beethoven and Berlioz for the Eloquentia and Ambroisie-Naïve labels. With his ensemble Le Concert de la Loge, he recorded all the Paris symphonies by Haydn which he set against other pieces written in Paris in the 1780s. Passionate about the rediscovery of forgotten French repertoire, he recorded with Sandrine Piau the album “Si j’ai aimé” for the Alpha label. As a soloist, he recorded two albums of concertos for violins for the Édition Vivaldi of the Naïve label.
He regularly performs with Alain Planès, Christophe Coin, Andreas Staier, Jean-François Heisser, Justin Taylor and Olivier Baumont with whom he recorded the album “À Madame” at the château de Versailles.
In 2022 Le Concert de la Loge and Julien Chauvin presented pieces by Vivaldi with Adèle Charvet and Eva Zaïcik for their debut at the Festival de Saint-Denis (Légion d’honneur). In 2023, they came back for The Creation by Haydn (Basilica).
