soprano
Winner of the First Prize at the Operalia competition in 2023 and the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition in New York in 2022, soprano Julie Roset quickly gained recognition as one of the finest coloratura sopranos of her generation. Her recent portrayal of Zémire (Zémire et Azor) at the Opéra Comique was met with great critical acclaim, including from Le Figaro, which wrote that “the young soprano captures the spotlight with singing that is as natural as it is intelligent.”
Highlights of Julie Roset’s 2023/24 season include her debut at the Paris Opera as Amour in Médée, in a new production by David McVicar conducted by William Christie; a European concert tour of Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Ensemble Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon; a baroque aria program titled Elemental with the ensemble Twelfth Night at Carnegie Hall; and a staged version of Die Schöpfung at the Opéra de Lorraine conducted by Marta Gardolińska.
Julie Roset is making a strong mark on the operatic scene, with notable performances at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, where she sang the roles of Valletto and Amore in L’incoronazione di Poppea under the baton of Leonardo García Alarcón. She also made her debut at the Teatro Real in the roles of Eurydice and La Musica in the acclaimed production of Orfeo by Sasha Waltz & Guests, and appeared at the Opéra du Rhin as Amour in L’incoronazione di Poppea, conducted by Raphaël Pichon.
In 2024–2025, she has been nominated for the Victoires de la Musique Classique in the “Lyric Revelation” category. She will also appear in Samson (Opéra-Comique), La Passion selon Saint-Matthieu (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées), La Resurrezione (Philharmonie de Paris), and Les Indes Galantes (La Seine Musicale, Auditorium de Lyon, Teatro Real Madrid).
Julie Roset made her debut at the Saint-Denis Festival in 2023 in Haendel’s La Creation under Julien Chauvin with Le Concert de la Loge, and in Pasión Argentina under Leonardo García Alarcón with Cappella Mediterranea. In 2024, she returned with Haendel’s La Resurrezione, again with Julien Chauvin/Le Concert de la Loge, and gave a preview concert with her ensemble La Néréide at the church of Saint-Denys-de-L’Estrée.
