After winning a conducting award at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, Fayçal Karoui, award winner of The International Competition for Young Conductors in Besançon, became Michel Plasson’s assistant conductor at the Orchestre national du Capitole in Toulouse. A position he held until 2022. He was subsequently invited to conduct orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, the Saint Peterburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Verdi in Milan, the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec.
In July 2006, Fayçal Karoui was appointed musical director of the New York City Ballet, founded by George Balanchine.
Head of the Orchestre de Pau Pays de Béarn since 2001, he breathes a musical politic for everyone and creates a programme in which new music mixes with pillars of the repertoire. He is regularly invited to French festivals as well as international ones (Spain, Italy, Japan…). He also accompanied several soloists like Nicholas Angelich, Steven Hough, Paul Meyer, Alexandre Tharaud, Bertrand Chamayou, Frank Braley, Xavier Phillips, Alexander Ghindin, Natalia Gutman, Daishin Kashimoto, Nelson Freire, Gautier Capuçon, and lyrical artists like Françoise Pollet, Nora Gubisch, Patricia Petibon or Roberto Alagna.
Fayçal Karoui was made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of Arts and Litterature) by the French Minister of Culture and Communication in 2013.
Fayçal Karoui conducted the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris in a concerto for trumpets by and with Ibrahim Malouf (Festival de Saint-Denis’s 2012 command).
