After studying musicology and violin, Axelle Fanyo devoted herself to singing. She entered Glenn Chambers’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating with first-class honours.
A laureate of the Royaumont Foundation, she has had the opportunity to perfect her skills with great artists such as Mireille Delunsch, Waltraud Meier and Dame Felicity Lott. She has been selected for a masterclass with Renée Fleming in New York in January 2019.
She is passionate about the lied and mélodie repertoire: first prize at the International Lied Duo Competition in Enschede (Netherlands) in 2015 and the Jeune Espoir prize at the Concours International de mélodie française de Toulouse the same year, she won the Kaleidoscope competition in the United States in May 2019.
She has performed at the Chopin Festival in Nohant, at the Petit Palais with the Jeunes Talents association, and at the Collège des Bernardins for the Wednesday Concerts series, as wel as at the Opéra de Lille and the Auditorium of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
She sings Legrenzi’s La Divisione del mondo with Les Talens Lyriques and Christophe Rousset (Cologne), Janáček’s Barena/Jenufa (Opéra de Dijon and Opéra de Caen), John Adams’ Leila/I Was Looking at the Ceiling and then I Saw the Sky (Opéra de Lyon), Rumshinsky’s Khane/The Golden Bride with Opera Fuoco, Brahms’s A German Requiem with Les Siècles and Ensemble Aedes, conducted by Mathieu Romano, and excerpts from Saint-Saëns’s Mélodies persanes recorded with the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse.
Axelle Fanyo subsequently sang in Le Baron de Münchhausen (a pasticcio based on 17th-century French operas), with Le Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet at the Opéra Impérial in Compiègne and on tour, La Seconde Servante/Elektra at the Capitole in Toulouse, Le Malade imaginaire by Charpentier/Molière with le Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet in Massy and extracts from musicals as part of the Châtelet Musical Club. Then Pulcheria/Le Amazzoni nell’isole fortunate by Pallavicino with Les Talens Lyriques in Potsdam and Beaune, a recital at the Trasimeno Festival in Italy with Kunal Lahiri, at the invitation of Angela Hewitt, and more recently Debussy’s La Demoiselle élue with the Orchestre de Paris, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. She recently made her debut at the Amsterdam Concergebouw in a recital with Julius Drake.
She recently appeared in Refka/Adriana Mater by Kaija Saariaho, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and will shortly be performing the title role in Verdi’s Luisa Miller.
