Born in Paris, Keyvan Chemirani grew up in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, immersing himself in Oriental and Mediterranean musics. His father and master Djamchid passed him the tradition knowledge. Keyvan plays the zarb, the percussion instrument used in Persian art music, and the Indian santour, a struck string instrument.
He founded the Trio Chemirani with his father Djamchid and his brother Bijan. They perform all over the world and they published the album Dawarchez Harmonia Mundi in 2015.
Influenced both by modal music – from the Mediterranean basin to India – and by the great jazz musicians, he tries to build bridges between these different musical cultures and is involved in fruitful collaborations in jazz and world music. He also works with early music ensembles such as Domique Vellard’s Ensemble Gilles Binchois, La Chapelle Rhénane conducted by Benoït Haller and Leonardi García Alarcón’s Cappella Mediterranea.
Keyvan Chemirani performed at the Festival Métis Plaine Commune in 2017 and with Cappella Mediterranea / Leonardo García Alarcón in Il Diluvio in 2014
