Fátima Fonte is a Portuguese composer who lives in Porto and London. She studied composition in Porto (ESMAE) and at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music with Richard Ayres. She also studied Hindustani music in India on a scholarship from the Fundação Oriente. Her music has been performed by the Nieuw Ensemble (Concertgebouw Amsterdam/Den Bosh), the Icarus Ensemble (Italy/Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival UK), orkest de ereprijs (Young Composers Meeting Aperdoorn/Gaudeaumus Music Week NL).
In recent years, she has worked intensively on music for the stage. One of her main works – the opera buffa A Querela dos Grilos (libretto by Tiago Schwäbl) – has been performed in many Portuguese theatres.
In 2017-2018, she was a young associate composer at Teatro Nacional São Carlos, collaborating with dancers, choreographers, singers and instrumentalists, as well as creating Era Uma Vez Eu-Alface, for narrator and with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
In 2019, the Orquestra Gulbenkian performed Breve Desassossego as part of the “Composing for Voices” workshop, and the Duo Tágide created Coração Acordeão (commissioned by Miso Music Portugal).
Fátima is currently a doctoral student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London).
