BRAHMS SERENADE N°1
The Orchestra of the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and their conductor Antonio Pappano are performing at the Festival for the first time.
A lover of voices, the conductor invites us to hear the exceptional mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in Rossini’s Giovanna d’Arco Cantata.
This is an opportunity to remember Joan of Arc’s visit here. She came to reflect in the Basilica of Saint-Denis in September 1429, nearly 600 years ago.

The royal Basilica of Saint-Denis used to be the church of a prosperous, powerful abbey in the Middle Ages, and was the first monumental masterpiece of Gothic art. The royal necropolis houses the tombs of the Kings of France, and boasts remarkable funeral sculptures from the 12th century to the 16th century (Dagobert, Pepin the Short, Francis I, Catherine de’ Medici…)
