Interrupted by the very death of tis author, Mozart’s Requiem is steeped in a mystery that fuels on-going fascination. Performed in our Saint-Denis Basilica, the work acquires a new dimension.

After 2014 and a memorable Mahler’s Second Symphony, James Gaffigan, musical director of Lucerne’s symphonic orchestra, comes back to the Festival with another iconic piece, now conducting the Orchestra National de France, the Chœur de Radio France, and a high-level vocal soloist quartet.

A new reading of a sublime score to close this year’s offering.

Basilique de Saint-Denis

The royal Basilica of Saint-Denis used to be the church of a prosperous, powerful abbey in the Middle Ages, and was the first monumental masterpiece of Gothic art. The royal necropolis houses the tombs of the Kings of France, and boasts remarkable funeral sculptures from the 12th century to the 16th century (Dagobert, Pepin the Short, Francis I, Catherine de’ Medici…)
