Tuesday 20 June 2017 - 20:30 • Basilique de Saint-Denis
Exclusively for the Festival’s audience, Leonardo García Alarcón and Jean Bellorini team up around Orfeo, Monteverdi’s first masterpiece.
With the sung words of this emerging baroque music, both deliver within the Basilica they’re familiar with a personal interpretation of the myth of Orpheus striving to rescue Eurydice from the Underworld.
It’s a wonderful song of love and grief; a poetic, dramatic, scenic piece on the power of music.

The royal Basilica of Saint-Denis used to be the church of a prosperous, powerful abbey in the Middle Ages, and was the first monumental masterpiece of Gothic art. The royal necropolis houses the tombs of the Kings of France, and boasts remarkable funeral sculptures from the 12th century to the 16th century (Dagobert, Pepin the Short, Francis I, Catherine de’ Medici…)
